When the ‘More Than Just Parks’ team sent us a message about their latest film, I couldn’t wait to watch it. Having followed the team’s adventures over the course of the project so far, I knew that the quality of the film was going to be high. Somehow, though, this one—simply titled ‘GRAND TETON 8K’—still managed to give me goosebumps! The opening sequence, perfectly accompanied by “Becoming Human” by Ryan Taubert, is just magical—capturing nature at it’s best.

If you missed the previous film in the series (BADLANDS), then here’s the lowdown. ‘More Than Just Parks (MTJP)’ is a project started by brothers Will Pattiz and Jim Pattiz, founders of Sea Raven Media. The goal is simple but meaningful—to encourage more people to get out and experience what’s theirs. In order to achieve this goal, the MTJP team are on a monumental filming adventure, travelling across the entire US to capture 59 national parks in breathtaking fashion.

The latest film is the culminations of nearly a month spent filming in the spectacular Jackson Hole Valley and the foothills of the Teton Range. Encompassing nearly 500 square miles, Grand Teton National Park boasts an awe-inspiring array of pristine wilderness, glacial lakes, winding rivers, diverse wildlife, and the magnificent Teton Range. On this latest film, Will and Jim Pattiz say:

Journey with us as we explore a land dominated by towering peaks, apex predators, and majestic beauty. This is Grand Teton.

The team’s journey started on the southern (Moose) end of the park. From there they hiked, camped, backpacked, and drove all around the park eventually making it out on the North side of the park near Yellowstone.

The team employed a few pieces of gear to capture various scenes for the film. Their main arsenal consisted of the Sony a7R II, the Canon 5D Mark III and the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K. For timelapse scenes, the team utilized the Radian & Michron by Alpine Labs.

If you’re interested in getting involved in the MTJP project or furthering the team’s efforts in any way, then shoot them an email to morethanjustparks@gmail.com, and/or donate to their cause on the More Than Just Parks website!
